I started thinking about songs that I hold close to my heart, songs that have impacted my life, songs that feel good, songs that I listened to because my parents would not let me change the song, but ended up loving. It’s not intended to be a playlist of the only songs I want to listen to for the rest of my life, but a playlist that has made my life the way it is. Groovy and funky music is my mom’s department, but she especially loved us listening to classical music when we were younger, so she had my brother and I trying to sing along to Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman in Italian every morning on the way to school. There’s 3 Taylor Swift songs on here and if my dad didn’t make us listen to country music, I would have never discovered Taylor (and that would have been a completely different life to live, if we’re being honest).
Every time I got “how’s your summer going? Some days by the pool, some days by the beach, some days just spent driving around, and some days spent at home surrounded by the sound of our family’s loud voices. When I was looking back and scanning the photos I had taken, it really hit me how important it is to choose how we spend our time, and our time with one another, not that we didn’t before, but this summer it had a new sort of value. There’s no way to buy time, let alone quality time.
Even before I left or had even decided to go to school out here, I had this fear of losing all my friends at home and not being able to make friends in Texas. I thought it would be normal to have no friends and that my friends back home would just move on with their lives without me. I thought that maybe I was friends with these people because I saw them on the regular and if I don’t see them on the regular, things change. That sounds like I googled “things friends should be” and put all the adjectives there, but I didn’t
With summer being just around the corner, I feel like new music is the best way to prepare for the it. I am so into feel good music! I made an Apple Music playlist with a few, like more than 50, songs that makes me feel good. There’s some Bruno Mars, some Future and some Lorde, but there’s also some songs you would hear on 94.7
