There is overwhelming science showing the value of a good bedtime routine for sleep. An hour before the designated bedtime, take your child to their room, close the curtains – prep the room for sleep The Moonlite story projector attaches to your cellphone and using the flash, projects the story onto the wall of the bedroom – just like magic. The first night, I read Little Red Riding hood which the kids loved – bedtime stories suddenly got even more engaging.
Babies have three very clear moods that no one needs any experience to recognize: crying, smiling and sleeping. But without language, how do babies communicate the more subtle states and moods and needs they have? Babies in fact have 6 states (Deep Sleep, Light Sleep, Drowsy, Calm Alert, Active Alert and Crying) and for each state is a set of signals that parents can recognize that will give clues as to their baby’s needs: Calm-Alert State –In this state, your baby is calm and wants to engage and learn from their world
Your toddler tells you when he is about to wee in his nappy. Your toddler requests to take his nappy off to wee or refuses to wear a nappy. If your toddler has the odd accident in this outdoor space, it is not a crisis and through these little mishaps, our toddler will learn the clear connection between feeling the urge to go to the toilet and making a wee. I believe the best time to potty train is in the summer after your toddler turns 18 months.
In general, babies under 2 years old should be in a small group – one on one or a maximum of one carer to four babies. If your baby resists being bottle fed, keep persisting at this point – she may prefer the breast but try to get her to have 1 feed a day from bottle until she accepts it, if you returning to work so soon. It is worth expressing enough milk for a 2-3 feeds a day for 3 weeks (15 feeds) ahead of time so that you know you have a buffer of milk for the first few weeks, in case expressing at work is not as easy as you hope for. Babies under 6 months are less likely to notice the separation, while older babies and toddlers can develop separation anxiety with the change.
