One of my favorite things to find at thrift stores/flea markets is something fun to hang on our walls. but I’m really into gold lately and the frame and matte with gold trim were really pretty. I was surprised to find the the picture was actually glued to the cardboard and the matte itself. I also gave the frame a little makeover with a more subtle gold color with some gold craft paint and it feels a bit more vintage now.
so I painted the wooden candlestick holder and the smaller plastic one with with Rusto-Oleum paint & primer spray paint in Heirloom White satin finish. If you wanted a more matte finish you could use matte spray paint or simply mix a little bit of baking soda in warm water and then add some craft paint to it in a small container. Not bad for $3 worth of thrift store finds… These DIY cake plate stands were literally one of the easiest projects I think I’ve ever done. You could do all different sizes in matching colors for a super cute Easter or Mother’s Day dessert table or any holiday or a DIY cupcake stand for a Birthday.
It takes some time to figure out what works for you, what type of pieces speak to you, what pieces work best in your home for your family and how each room needs to functions. D. Ask yourself if you’re willing to invest the time in either searching for just the right pieces at the right price or doing some DIY projects you can handle (i.e. furniture makeovers). You should also look at magazines, Instagram (you can save pictures on Instagram to a folder by hitting the little tag icon over on the right), Facebook, even furniture store ads showing completed rooms. So now you know what you want to keep/toss or change in your rooms, you’ve narrowed down pictures of spaces you love and you have an idea about where to start with your colors.
Although it goes against what I always say about only working with real wood pieces (which I share in my tips on painting furniture), I took it anyway, for three reasons. The inspiration for this desk makeover using paint was my son’s quilt, which has navy, red and tan. When you are painting laminate furniture, it’s super important to use primer.
