It is no secret that I love work tasks! I love creating them, using them, teaching how to use them, and watching my students go from dependent to independent! I wanted to do this post because I feel like there are a lot of teachers out there that want to implement a work task system into their classroom but have NO idea where to start. I also wanted to share the work tasks that some of my lowest functioning students have done and to be honest; some of my highest but super distracted students have done to start building that independence stamina
So, it’s that time of year where most of us are looking for ideas of what to get our classroom staff to show we appreciate them during the holidays. First I wanted to share that I do get my classroom staff gifts for the holidays I like to give my staff random gifts so that they know that I appreciate them not just during times of the year that are meant for showing appreciation. So after the holidays roll around or even now while you are out getting those bigger gifts don’t forget to think about things you could pick up, store away, and use at another time as a little pick-me-up for your staff in the months to come to make sure they know how much you really couldn’t survive without them!
I won’t ask you to choose what’s more important, because that can really change by week when it comes to all of these obligations. Sometimes I will plan by day, but that really depends on what’s going on during the week. Teaching is my full time job, there’s no working around when that is implanted into my schedule. I promise you that if you are strategic and take the time to sit out and plan your week (or day) balancing teaching, relationships, and your side hustle can be a lot easier than one may think!
So we compiled a list of words we were going to focus on based on the core vocabulary list and then put them in the order we felt for the particular group of students I had this year. We only teach core vocabulary for about 15 minutes explicitly as a part of my morning meeting lesson Monday through Thursday but, then we try as much as possible to incorporate it into our day all the time. Wednesday: Read adapted book and complete draw lines to word worksheet and cut and paste worksheet.
