The Agua Azul Waterfalls brought about mixed feelings for us, on one hand, it was extremely beautiful, there are falls everywhere and it is pretty much exactly how it looks in all of the photos. Located only 70kms from the amazing Palenque Ruins, Agua Azul Waterfalls are a series of cascading waterfalls famous for their blue water and iconic looking formations, the falls flow from the Xantil River in the Chiapas region. To be honest this is your best option for accommodation when visiting Agua Azul Waterfalls Casa Janaab Palenque, Casa Janaab is recently renovated, it’s clean and in the middle of Palenque Hotel Boutique Quinta Chanabnal is a kind of expensive option, rooms start at $200 USD per night but they look incredible, rooms have aircon, there is a massive garden with an amazing looking pool complete with waterfalls.
Ha waterfall is located in Chiapas and is a heavenly destination located nice and close to several other beautiful spots like The Palenque Ruins, Agua Azul, and Roberto Barrios. Ha from Palenque is easy as Misol Ha is located only 20kms from Palenque but due to its being located in the Chiapas highlands the roads are you classic mountainous Mexican windy roads and 20kms can easily take you 40 minutes to an hour to travel. The first part is at a small gate where you pay 10 Pesos which is for entrance to the actual Salto Del Agua park You are going to hear a few people complain about having to pay the extra fee at the entrance to the park but this fee goes to the landowners and is very little.
As you weave through dense rainforest and muddy trails your eyes darting between beautiful flowers and thick tree roots on the trail, ready to trip you at any moment the sounds of the falls draw closer, the moisture in the air changes and all of a sudden, bam! Walk down the small hill, over the suspension bridge and then follow all the sings up the hill for about 10 minutes until you get to the cabin where you have to pay the entrance fee. Like I said before you start on a suspension bridge and then follow the signs up the hill for 10 minutes to the cabin, pay the fee and then start The Lost Waterfalls trail. You are in the mountains and once you stop moving, being all wet already you get cold pretty quick, combine that with the wind from the waterfall and the actual water temp and what is a 1-hour swim in your head quickly turns into a 5-minute dip to wash some sweat off your body.
This was a super beautiful hike that was pretty easy overall but blessed us with incredible views over the volcanic crater and town that is El Valle de Anton whilst also being able to see the ocean and a few other great hikes in the area! Hiking La India Dormida in El Valle de Anton is probably the most popular sunrise hike in the area. : Hiking La India Dormida in El Valle de Anton Swim in the waterfalls at La India Dormida This one might depend on the time of year you are there but on the shoulder seasons and during the rainy season, there are several waterfalls running down the mountain from La India Dormida which make for a perfect spot to cool off with a little swim after a big sweaty hike.
