We planned to spend her birthday at the zoo, but as these things go, the forecast started showing storms and rain all day. It wouldn't be a birthday if I'm not sick! ! ! ! ! ! It was an exhausting day and not to name names, but someone (me) forgot the flamingos wouldn't be out due to cold weather and promised the birthday girl some flamingos, but all things considered, it was a successful day. She's been wanting her own umbrella for ages, and I forgot to get her one for her birthday.

The survivor (we are never given her name---I'm just realizing this in hindsight) writes about it in her journal because she's finally realizing it's time to tell people what she went through and to correct the rumors. It's sad and awful to read of the terrible pain and symptoms these women suffered from, but they stood up for their fellow women and for future generations by ensuring no more people would have to die like they did. It's a rhyming, lyrical verse that makes it really fun to read and for kids to get into it. It's similar to Wendell in that it's about not comparing yourself to others because we all have unique talents.

And that’s when I realized it must be my 30th birthday. I still don’t know if it was food poisoning or the world’s worst strand of norovirus or what, but I got sick Thursday afternoon. it’s just a cold, but poor James has been responsible for us both when we should have been on a fun family birthday trip. On the bright side, I don’t know the last time I was able to sleep all night and day for 4 days straight like I just did.

It’s only Tuesday, and so far we’ve only had power yesterday. An epic windstorm knocked the power out Sunday, and the town’s whole power grid is down today and will be down for “a long time. It’s the first time a candle has ever blown back! It’s SO CUTE.I sent in Gracie’s preschool registration this week.
