Green RV’s Marketing Manager, Joanna, explored the world’s largest sand island last week, spending 5 days on Fraser Island, in Queensland. Here are 5 extra things that come in handy when you visit this sandy island: Fraser Island stretches over 120 kilometres with endless attractions you won’t want to miss, this makes jerry cans a must. If you don’t pack extra fuel, don’t be alarmed, you can buy fuel on the island for a staggering $2.60 per litre! As much as it is important to pack sunscreen, hats (Bunning’s hat a winner) and protective gear for the blistering sun we found having a light waterproof jacket to come in handy when the rain came, allowing us to continue our adventures care-free.
We left Bathurst late in the day and was heading through Mudgee where we found ourselves unsure of where to stay, we ended up pulling into a free camp / rest area at Capatee which is approx. There was also plenty of large fire pits spread through the Campground so if you wish to have a fire make sure you take firewood with you as you cannot collect firewood inside the national park. As a family we like to combine a bit of history when we camp somewhere as it adds a bit more depth and adventure, anywhere we go we incorporate learnings for our two boys throughout our big lap of Australia. The two boys decided to camp out in their swags that night which brought out a couple of intrigued monitor lizards to inspect the swags for food, we did save them – the boys that is, it illicit some laughs from all.
