Reviews for cigar and pipe lovers
About a month ago I received an email from Mr. Adam Zubar asking if I would like to try the Caoba Cigar line
Name: Matusalem 18 Year Grand Reserva Type: Rum Origin: Dominican Republic To my eyes and the lighting I have downstairs, the 18 Year Grand Reserva seems darker in hue than the 12 Year. Just like its 12 Year Old cousin, this rum can be paired with nearly any kind of cigar you’d prefer. The price on the 18 Year Grand Reserva is slightly more than the 12 Year and in my opinion it’s a steal for what you are getting at.
The wrapper is a Rosado Claro Corojo 99 from Jalapa, the binder and filler use Corojo 99 and Criollo 98 from Jalapa and Esteli, as well as half a leaf of Medio Tiempo, a rare high priming tobacco used very seldom in cigars. Both of Leaf Enthusiast’s sponsor stores—Cigar and Pipes and Small Batch Cigar—carry Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection. I got information for the background section of this review from Cigar-Coop’s news story about the cigar’s release. In the final third, the Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection had more floral notes and a slight cinnamon note emerged mixed in with the cedar.
Lighting up the Regius Black label, I got a smooth, medium-bodied smoke that had sweet, almost molasses notes at time, grassiness, and a tiny bit of citrus sweetness and tang. I hate applying this word to a cigar, because tobacco inevitably tastes like the country it is grown in, but this Robusto Tubo version of the Regius Black Label was very Cubanesque right from the start, both in overall body and even some flavors. The molasses notes came up from time to time and there was a slight increase in pepper, from white to black. The Regius of London Black Label blend is an excellent cigar with a high level of complexity in its medium-bodied smoke.
