It spurred our CEO Paul Charles and George Morgan-Grenville, CEO of tour operator Red Savannah, to formulate an industry-wide campaign in order to put pressure on the Government to make a U-turn. Our objectives were clear and robust: alert the media and the public to how poorly thought-out, unworkable and economically-damaging the quarantine measures would be, and to ensure that the measures were diluted at their first review by 29th June and replaced by travel corridors or air bridges. The Government reviewed the blanket quarantine measures and, as of 29 June, announced that a new traffic light system would be introduced, with new air corridors established between the UK and countries in green, amber, and red categories. The U-turn symbolises a much-needed level of support to get the travel sector moving again – and heralds a swifter recovery for airlines, airports, tour operators, and the entire hospitality industry.
Visit Finland and Visit Turku partnered with Luna Kids Cinema to create a superb Finnish-themed day out for families in London. The tourism boards took over a day of Luna Kids film screenings on Saturday 17 August to bring the public a whole host of exciting extras. On the event day, guests met the Moomin characters, tasted delicious Finnish delicacies, enjoy a sneak peek at the Sky Kids Moominvalley TV series and had the chance to buy special Moomin mugs by Arabia. Visit Finland and Turku branding featured throughout the cinema area, including feather flags and ped barrier jackets with a large marquee with “Hungry for Finland” across the front, advertising the Turku food inspired food stand.
For 2019, theatre was chosen for the spotlight and the PC Agency team tasked with devising a media event in London designed to build awareness, educate and inspire the UK’s leading travel and lifestyle media and influencers. Rather than a view to securing coverage, we approached this as a key opportunity to further enhance our media and influencer relations with new and well-established contacts via a memorable event designed to present Chicago in a fresh new light. In addition to hosting senior reps from Choose Chicago, we also invited key influencers in the Chicago theatre community, including Commissioner of the City of Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE); the founder and President of Broadway in Chicago, and the Executive Director of League of Theatres. 38 media and influencers were secured, alongside flight partners Aer Lingus and Norwegian, key publications included; The Times, Mail on Sunday, Independent.co.uk, Conde Nast Traveller, Harrods magazine, Press Association, and Vanity Fair.
The team was appointed to plan and coordinate an exclusive and intimate travel trade and media event in Glasgow on behalf of the Ibiza Tourism Board. the destination’s developments for 2019, notably new hotel openings, including Six Senses Hotel, and new experiential packages and tours from wellness to wine tasting. We worked with the Director of Tourism for Ibiza on his presentation, which included a new destination video and information about all year-round cultural and sports events, weddings, family experiences, new hotel openings, and the island’s new sustainable tourism tax. The PC Agency provided a full end-to-end service, including facilitating introductions for future press or trade enquiries, supplying images to travel trade press and the tourism board for promotion across their social channels and in print, and delivered a comprehensive post-event report for the tourism board.
