Regrets about long-term travel?

Spend time together as a family   Once you’re on the road and your life is stripped of all the demands of living at home, you’ll have a lot more time to be together and to truly listen to your children. As John grew up in New England, his family spent their summer holidays at Grandma’s cottage on the Long Island Sound every year. I loved the idea of exploring different parts of my country every year and couldn’t wait to head out in the station wagon once summer came. Here’s another article about some of the down sides of long term travel: 12 reasons why you should never travel long term After 21 years as a classroom teacher, Nancy Sathre-Vogel finally woke up and realized that life was too short to spend it all with other people's kids.

10 reasons to choose an outdoor vacation with your kids

Here’s some of the reasons why I think you should choose an outdoor vacation with your kids: 1) An outdoor vacation can help by taking away the distractions of normal life; the electronics, the consumerism of shopping trips and the mindless busyness of life. 7) They can help build confidence While your kids are learning all new skills that come with an outdoor vacation they’re also building confidence. The simplicity of being outdoors and of connecting can sound like it’s not going to be much fun but believe me, it’s always proved me otherwise!

A week later: Reflections on hiking the Jordan Trail

My experience with these wonderful people and the time I spent in the desert wilderness greatly overshadowed the original reasons I chose this adventure: my love of backpacking and hiking in spectacular scenery. You can find all my journal entries from hiking the Jordan Trail here: Jordan Trail After 21 years as a classroom teacher, Nancy Sathre-Vogel finally woke up and realized that life was too short to spend it all with other people's kids. It's a fairly sure bet that you'll find her either writing on her computer or creating fantastical pieces with the beads she's collected all over the world.
