Why I never wanted to qualify for the Boston Marathon

Running a qualifying time for any race has never been on my agenda or bucket list…because running never has been that for me. But I’ve never set out to train for a race like Boston in hopes of running faster than a 3:35:00, the qualifying time for my age group. When I’m running the NYC Marathon this November, I’ll be exactly 13 months postpartum. I’m grateful to be feeling as strong and healthy as ever, but after taking a year off, I’m not in prime running shape when it comes to the paces I’m running.

Running After Becoming A Mom

I want to talk about running and motherhood and parenting and friendships and my career and my goals and the future and where I want to travel and what I’m anxious about and what I’m looking for in life, but they all seem too scrambled in my brain to attempt to invoke any sense of meaning. The not-so-wonderful thing about being a mother, however, is when I’m watching Grey’s I haven’t run a marathon since 2013, which is surprising to me because it doesn’t seem like it has been that long. Reaching distances I haven’t run since long before pregnancy is an incredible mood booster – I’m up to 14 miles now.

Title X: What We Need To Know

For more than 40 years, Title X family planning clinics have played a critical role in ensuring access to a broad range of family planning and related preventive health services for millions of low-income or uninsured individuals and others. From what I’ve read, this means if a pregnant woman comes into a Title X funded clinic, the physician, nurse, etc cannot counsel or provide information on abortion as an option, including recommendations for places to get one if the woman is unsure about her options and wants to discuss. You can read the proposed changes here: Title X Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Stances of those opposed to the proposed changes: Gag orders that restrict the ability of physicians to explain all options to their patients and refer them—whatever their health care needs—compromise this relationship and force physicians and nurses to withhold information that their patients need to make decisions about their care.

Mom Life: Month 2

I admit that, even though I’ve always insisted I wouldn’t be a mom who wanted to post baby pictures on social media and I wouldn’t have a phone filled with baby photos (I mean really, don’t they just make the same face all day? ) If she starts crying and I don’t immediately pick her up, will she grow up with this deeply ingrained feeling that I’m a huge jerk but won’t quite know why? If I don’t check to see that she’s breathing at least 7 times an hour while she’s sleeping, will she suffocate? If I don’t track every feeding and diaper change on my baby app, did it even happen? !
