Adventure Travel with Dogs | Meet Jen, Dave, and Sora the dog. Sora convinced us to take her on a world bike tour. Read about our adventures and mishaps.
No matter how long we walk our dogs in the parking lot or around the trail head before starting off on a hike, they will inevitably poop just far enough away from the start (and therefore trash can) that it’s exactly too far to pick it up and jog back to toss out. Moreover, just like human poop, dog poop contains bacteria and parasites. I cringe every single time that I pull a plastic bag from my poop bag dispenser. Not because of the smell or that I am my dog’s personal waste caddy, but because I think about all that plastic I’m creating.
The majority of the establishments listed here have partnered with food trucks, allow guests to bring their own food, or encourage patrons to order take out from neighboring restaurants. The pub features 36 beers on tap, a list of over 150 beers from all over the world, as well as other beverages for those who don’t drink beer. There is no kitchen on the premises, but there’s always a food cart in the beer garden and guests may bring their own food. Dogs are welcome, it’s bike friendly, and the brew pup host regular events like trivia, taco Tuesday, and open mic nights.
It’s only $20 and you earn 10% back annually on your purchases, plus a host of other rewards, including members only deals, 20% coupons for both full price items and the REI Outlet, and an additional 10% back when you spend $50 or more on REI co-op branded items. It’s not the most fun part of backpacking, but it’s part of backpacking with a dog. For shorter backpacking trips, I’ll stuff the used bags in the dog pack, since it’ll just be one or two bags. If you’re planning a longer trip, you can use something like a 5L dry bag attached to your backpack to store the bags and the stench.
When you bring your dog into consideration, you’ll need to think about their size (do they take up alllll the space? ), their demeanor (will they scratch the mesh lining? ), and their sleeping temperature (do they tend to run cold or hot? ). Depending on the size of your dog and how much space they tend to take up when they sleep, you may want to consider your dog as an additional person. The vestibule area is the space created by the rain fly that provides covered space for gear or shoes. The Copper Spur has the largest floor space of all of the tents listed here, so if you have a large dog or two medium to small ones, then this would make a great choice.
