But it’s still inappropriate according to my Palestinian father even though I’ve explained it’s not what he thinks or how it was in the ‘70s. So because I spend a lot of time in hotels I’ve observed a lot of families and kids and breakdowns and furrowed brows and less-than-perfect moments. : It’s really okay. Somewhere along the way these tiny puzzle pieces filled my heart, yeah just like an Oliver Jeffers book, and filled my time too. And in the blink of an eye every morning and afternoon and night revolved around potty training and play dates, teething and tantrums, cuddles and cozy time at home. So many things I’ve forgotten along the way and can’t keep track of in this crazy whirl of mommyhood. So yeah, some of the things I’ve forgotten no longer need to be on my list.
I’ve yelled my fair share about nose picking and spilling shit and just random ridiculous things they decide to spread, mix and bang together. I consider myself lucky to have had kids pretty early on and really lucky to have had the chance to learn certain things from them that I wish I had learned earlier on in my own childhood Your siblings are the only people who will know your faults and your flaws and every embarrassing hairdo in between. 3) Everyone pees themselves more than once in their life. so I’m on a flight back to NYC after my intense week long book launch (well I was when I wrote this). Between multiple happy hours in the heart of the city to promote my book (with pop rocks rimmed cocktails, of course) and coffee mornings to try and charm people into buying a copy… let’s just say it was productively exhausting. 5) Bring a book to look busy instead of desperately looking at people as they walk by your stand. No one really wants to hear about your children’s series when they’re buying your first book.
