We had a house full of people – family from both sides and diplo-husband back from Jordan, not to mention a full crew of workers racing to complete as much of the renovation as possible before the festivities began. The house seems quiet now, too quiet as all have departed and we catch our breath in these final days of the year, so it’s just as well that we made our Key West plans. It seems fitting for this year – everything seems a little scrambled and cobbled, but in a way that’s meant to pave the way for better things ahead. We both are getting tremendous professional opportunities, but I won’t lie, breaking up the band is a real drag, and I’m a little tired of it.
Charlie Brown Vans: Charlie Brown’s Christmas is a major fixture in our house, whether we’re watching it or listening to the music. And if I’m by myself, then I usually have Vince Guaraldi’s Charlie Brown Christmas on in the background as I light a few pine candles (with the renovations But the past couple of days, something put the Radiohead bug in my ear, specifically OK Computer, which turned 20 years old this year (and was recently re-released). And although I didn’t realize it at the time, it’s also one of the last true great “albums I’m sure the Christmas music will come back on shortly – after all, I have two children who really love themselves a good rendition of Frosty or the Chipmunks, but maybe just one more go at this remarkable album before the evening ends.
It will be to visit some dear Danish friends coming to make their first US trip. This family looked out for us in more ways than I can say, and their daughter is arguably one of my daughters best friends still, even more than an ocean away and more than a year and a half apart. so I was hoping to read or re-read a few while down there, and of course, to visit that nutty cat infested house of his. but I’m all ears for recommendations and advice on making the most of an end of December trip to our southernmost point (kind of like our own American Skagen…but warmer…and more palm trees).
