COVID-19 Vaccine: Spread Protection, Not Inaccuracies

Share information with the public at both the local and national levels through partners (including other federal partners beyond CDC, like FDA, CMS, NIH, FEMA, and DHA), social media channels, press, and other trusted sources. If scientists don’t acknowledge that uncertainty, people will fill in those holes with information they can find easily – and unfortunately, that is often misinformation. Public health professionals need to closely monitor messages circulating and public understanding of the topic to understand what misinformation may need to be corrected. The public health community and partners need to work together to build vaccine confidence.

How 3 Critical Elements of Project Management Became More Important in the Time of COVID-19

Some of my clients preferred weekly email updates, while others wanted regular phone calls, and a few wanted no changes to our current communication protocols, except transitioning all scheduled face-to-face meetings to conference calls. This recent exercise reinforced the tenet, if the right folks are involved at the right time, even with the loss of co-location, our project change process can go smoothly and be successful. Even back then, I knew that great project managers did not have to be the smartest person in the room but needed to know how to understand a project scope in order to hire the smartest person to do the job. I did not need to solve the problem on my own, I only needed to guide the process, ask the right questions, set parameters and work with the team for us to agree on the best solution.

How a Pandemic Helped Mainstream Telehealth

As a society, we may not have been prepared for a global pandemic, but, fortunately, the healthcare field had been building basic telehealth technology infrastructure that quickly adjusted to providing care in a new, socially distanced way of life. In addition to traditional medical provider visits, ancillary services such as dentistry, physical therapy, mental health counseling, and health care education must also continue in order to maintain our population’s health. Just two months after the COVID-19 shelter in place orders and social distancing recommendations were implemented, Karna performed a survey of Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support Services (DSMES) programs in Georgia. Although not all security and reimbursement policies have been sorted out, it is reassuring to know that telehealth platforms are a great resource that allow a variety of healthcare services to continue, despite the challenges of COVID-19.
