My Night Routine

I discovered the Futon Shop when I was hanging out with fellow zero-waste blogger Kathryn from Going Zero Waste, and we went on a tour together of one of the Futon Shop’s factories in south San Francisco. Salvaging the foam, metal and wood material from mattresses can divert thousands of tons of waste, but this doesn’t always happen, as proper disposal of mattresses can be expensive if local waste facilities charge. Although expensive initially, buying a good quality, sustainable mattress can help reduce the demand for the synthetic materials used to make most mattresses today. I remember when I went to a tour of the local landfill when I first started my zero waste journey, and I immediately noticed a large pile of furniture such as TVs and plenty of mattresses.

How to Compost with Worms

I also used soil when I started off the bin in case the bedding was too rough) Keep your compost bin in an area that stays a constant 50-80 degrees F. I like to keep mine indoors, since our night and day tend tend to fluctuate in temperature here in California. When you start your worm bin, put in moist bedding (soak paper products for a few hours or overnight), some soil, and a little bit of food. I would highly encourage anyone to try this method out at home, otherwise there are plenty of other options of how to compost as well like what I used to do back at my parents’ home, trench composting.

Tim’s Vintage Modern Home

In light of my book, Sustainable Home, being published today (woohoo! ! ), I thought I would kick off the occasion with a beautiful home tour and interview with Tim from Bay on a Budget, also Christian musician from Tim Be Told. I thought I would share some of his insights and stories in the video below, otherwise feel free to browse his blog, or keep reading on some quick tips from Tim. When it comes to curating furniture and home good, Tim thinks about a few things: he opts for classic, neutral colors to make his pieces stand over the test of time, as well as natural, durable materials. Whether it’s a photo, a book, or some sort of collectible over time, Tim appreciates how everything he has curated in his home that is placed on the shelving has some purpose and sentimental value.

Natural Zero Waste Beauty Routine

It’s been almost two years since I’ve shared my everyday bathroom routine, and I wanted to share an update to my everyday routine, including a few more things I do to get ready and groom myself. After any good morning workout, it definitely feels great to come back and cleanse yourself thoroughly, so I’ve included some extra steps of exfoliation in this particular routine. I don’t do this everyday, but love to moisturize my feet afterwards and wear socks so my feet are extra soft. I don’t use it as much as when I had long hair, but it definitely helps to tame any short hairs that stick up (: Tweezerman tweezers –
