The Shirtwaist

White vintage blouse Lloyd Williams, similar here , here , here I do not remember where I learned about it, must have been a blog, but the day I read up on the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire one of the things I wondered about was what shirts they were making. Of course I was horrified by the fact that over 130 young immigrant women burned to death or jumped from the windows, only to die upon falling on the asphalt, as they tried to escape the heat. The Shirtwaist Factory in Greenwich Village NYC was burning and the women could not use the stairs because they were locked in, it happened in March 1911. The shirtwaist model was popular back in the day because it was ready to wear and later it came a symbol of female independence.

Keeping it real

One of the things I miss about the "good old days" of blogging is that it was not so commercial. It was just a great way to share fashion, meet new people and be inspired. In this new era I often see garments worn just to be showcased and not part of every day lives. For example, today I am wearing shoes that could easily be 8 years old and the Carven top is well over 15 years old...

Cheap vs inexpensive

I've had this is my mind for a while and today I'll try to write it down and hopefully it will make sense: the difference between cheap and inexpensive. I thought of it today, well for a very simple reason, my tee and trousers were 1.07 USD each. The pants are Tahari, the top does not have a brand label or place of manufacture, but the fabric is stretchy and it hangs well. Now, I consider these items inexpensive and not cheap.

March closet edits

It seems headbands and hair accessories are trending, so I thought I'd wear some of mine and edit any if necessary. This yellow one for example is peeling so it's out of the closet. Also out are these two pairs of no brand sunglasses, the burgundy ones were pretty beat up, the black ones were no longer a shape I go for. 3 items in one month, not something Marie Kondo would be very excited about.
