The $100 Mission and Baseball Beyond Borders – Rain City Capital

Baseball Beyond Borders works to provide access and opportunity for youth from urban communities throughout the Seattle area to learn baseball fundamentals–and through the sport, acquire critical life skills and make lasting friendships. As a youth growing up in Seattle’s Central District, Bookie played ball at Garfield Playfield and was fortunate enough to take his talents from selects programs to collegiate ball and eventually becoming drafted by a Major League team. While Baseball Beyond Borders assists urban youth by helping with team fees, equipment costs, and transportation, through their partnership with Moving Beyond 12 (MB12), they also provide student athletes with mentorship and life-learning skills to prepare them for college and adulthood. In addition to baseball, and now softball, they offer a volleyball program (Volleyball Beyond Borders) to help children throughout Seattle play and develop their volleyball skills.

The $100 Mission and Chapter 2 Chapter – Rain City Capital

Chapter 2 Chapter works to make sure children from impoverished families have access to books at all grade levels. Then they work with local community partners such as libraries, school districts, homeless and domestic violence shelters, and food banks to help make sure these books are given to children and families. Along with sorting books by theme and age, they also try to make sure to give Native American-themed books to their tribal partners, Afro-centric books to the Somali community, Spanish bilingual books to Latinx communities, and healthy male role modelling and positive self-esteem books to domestic violence programs and shelters. Chapter’s long-term goals are to create literacy programs for children, and apply their principles to adult literacy and GED programs in the prison population to reduce recidivism rates.
