The uneven season may be due, in part, to Season 6 being a transitional season, as previous longtime showrunners Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle vacated their roles and producer/writer Beth Schwartz moved into the Arrow's chief shotcaller role. When the team does catch up to Diaz, thanks to Felicity tracking Quentin's pacemaker (Who knew that he had one before this episode? ), Diaz and Oliver get their season-ending rooftop fight, which was too poorly lit to make out who was who. Bugging team members, cutting deals with the feds to sell out the team, sabotaging tech to disable a teammate -- these are distracting issues compared to the fact that Oliver can't save his city if he fails his team ... and himself. In a TV series where metas, magic and time travel are supposed to hold little weight, we can only hope that some of the consequences and life lessons learned this season on Arrow will actually stick next season.
If the audience was looking for director Rian Johnson to spoon-feed to them all of the answers and give them the sort of "A-ha! " moments that Star Wars fans have been accustomed to seeing in the original trilogy and the prequels, they will likely be disappointed because the The Last Jedi provides non-answers to some questions and subverts fans' expectations to others. From the lauded victor of the Battle of Endor who saved Anakin Skywalker's soul in The Return of the Jedi to a disgruntled hermit in a forgotten corner of the galaxy in The Last Jedi, the elder Luke appears to be everything a Jedi Master isn't supposed to be -- on the surface. Johnson had the difficult task of trying to perpetuate J.J. Abrams' initial vision for Star Wars, while ensuring that his film served as a bridge between the legacy-heavy Episode VII and the brave new world of a Star Wars universe not dependent on Skywalkers or Solos. Given time, The Last Jedi may yet have a similar legacy with this generation's viewers (aka the eight or nine-year olds whose first introduction to Star Wars was through Rey, Finn and Kylo).
The result was a succession of similarly-themed DC flicks (The Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad) that, while successful in the box office, did not reap the critical acclaim of Christopher Nolan's Batman films. The banter and humour between Diana and Steve throughout the film is fun and cheeky without being crude (think Casablanca more than Baywatch), as the Amazon princess must adjust to a world where women still don't have the vote and are viewed as secondary beings with few opinions of value. The U.S. didn't enter the war until 1917, hence American spy Steve needing to be seconded to British army intelligence in the movie. Timely, inspiring and a fitting callback to past superhero movies (Donner's Superman movie comes to mind), Wonder Woman puts to rest any notion that women can't do it better.
The season finale of Arrow is the culmination of Oliver Queen's five-year story arc, which began with his rescue from the island of Lian Yu (Mandarin for purgatory). Stacked against Team Arrow is the motley crew of Talia Al Ghul and her rogue ninjas, Black Siren, renegade Team Arrow turncoat Evelyn (Artemis) and Adrian Chase himself. When Oliver and Chase finally confront each other in the team vs. team battle royale, Oliver has the courage to resist the compulsion to kill the man who has been tormenting him this whole year. In the present, Oliver's discovery that William was never on the island but on Chase's escape boat soon leads to a harrowing dockside pursuit and another opportunity for Chase to compel Oliver to embrace his personal darkness and slay him.
