This time it was a freak wish of mine for a scooty ride took us to Jagjivanpur – one of the Buddhist excavation sites to be found in West Bengal. But coincidentally, just the day before Buddha Purnima on 10th of May, 2017, while we went out on our weekly scooty ride, we simply took the road and providence led us to Jagjivanpur. Some thirty years ago, the villagers had stumbled upon a copper plate charter at the village that led to the discovery of such an excavation site. The copper plate of size 52 cm X 37.5 cm was like any other royal plate with a royal seal attached at the top of the plate.
And we both are now surrounded by colours and people at the Bhubandanga ground celebrating Basanta Utsav at Shantiniketan. The Basanta Utsav celebration is held at the Bhubandanga Playground adjacent to the Viswabharati University complex. There were no water colours, everyone played with dry colours – abir or gulaal. The eternal love story of Radha and Krishna Holi in India is celebrated as an expression of the eternal love between Radha and Krishna.
The Sandamuni Pagoda located near the Mandalay Hill and is famous for the largest iron Buddha (also known as Sandamani). The temple is the sole remaining structure of the former wooden Royal Palace built by King Mindon in mid-nineteenth century. You can climb on top of the white pagoda using the staircase and get a beautiful view of the river and Mingun Pagoda. The Mingun Pagoda was not completed, the construction of the accompanying Mingun bell was completed.
The festival has taken place every year since then and is one of the city’s main highlights. The tethered hot air balloon rides are more affordable and you might even get to ride in a Sylvester from The Looney Tunes balloon! The Paris Zombie Festival, also known as Paris Zombie Walk, is one of the coolest and weirdest festivals in Paris, France. The festival is celebrated in Old San Juan which by itself is a small historic city, so imagine 200,000 people spread all over this Spanish colonial city’s narrow cobblestone streets.
