My most valuable and fulfilling travel experiences have been when working in international development, and working with the local population – forming relationships and learning about their culture in the process. founder and I started Venture with Impact because we, like many professionals, were torn between the desire to travel and make a social impact, while at the same time, maintaining a professional career. Venture with Impact allows professionals to live for one month in a destination abroad, work remotely for their job back home, and volunteer on a pro-bono project with a local organization. We work closely with our local partner organizations to understand their needs from month to month.
The thing we really love about travel is discovering new cultures and having the most incredible experiences, it doesn’t matter if that means something so simple as seeing where someone lives in a remote part of Myanmar or laying eyes on Uluru for the first time. I think when you travel you see that most people want the same thing in a round about way and that most people are good and the world isn’t this scary place. We’ve met people who’ve let us stay with them or that we’ve hitch hiked with, its that openness that is really inspiring. 18 months later we say we’re heading to Adelaide thinking we’ll just catch up, but instead he offers his home to us, we stay for a week, meet his friends and family, go exploring Adelaide and its surrounds together, he shouts us for numerous drinks and meals because he knows how tight funds are when traveling but wants us to experience the best of the city.
When I was invited to brunch at Bar 314, I was instantly drawn to its story, its menu, the artisanal cocktails, and how everything is infused with the chef’s Puglian heritage. By the co-owners of Babbalucci, Bar 314 brings the best of Italian comfort food (pizza and other delicious dishes) together with refreshing drinks. According to the Bar 314 website, “Andrew’s light and airy homemade dough makes the perfect vehicle to house his delicious and unique topping combinations. Next, we order the A’Huevos Pizza with tomato sauce, guanciale (an Italian cured meat), caciocavallo (cheese), baked egg, and cherry peppers.
It sounds cheesy, but I feel renewed when I travel to a new place and I feel more connected with the planet and my place on it. What do you love about where you’re personally from (your specific town/city) that travelers may not be aware of? Share a picture and tell us why you love it! He was having some troubles in the dating department lets say, so me and my friend gave his online dating profile a makeover, took new pictures for him, gave him a pep talk and helped him pick outfits to wear!
