There are other games such as shuffleboard and skee-ball to keep the fun rolling, as well as a rooftop bar with gorgeous views of the city. Perched above the Wharf sits Whiskey Charlie, an upscale lounge with one of the best views in the entire city courtesy of their outdoor rooftop, which makes it an ideal date spot on the Wharf. Pop’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream and the views from the Old Town Alexandria Harbor are always crowd pleasers. This fully functional deli does more than just serve sandwiches, it is home to one of the coolest spots in the city for a drink and a date night out.
It’s a reality, as the Global Mixed Gender Basketball league (GMGB) comes to the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Southeast DC later this month. That imagination took on reality and birthed the first original coed basketball league.” Morris says that when fans come to see GMGB games, they’ll notice that the league has some new rules that differ from standard NBA and WNBA regulations. It’s fitting that the Fusion will be playing at the Entertainment and Sports Arena – the home arena of DC’s WNBA team, the Washington Mystics – since the team has many links to the WNBA. They include Andre Barrett, who played for Seton Hall and several NBA teams including the Chicago Bulls and the LA Clippers; Khalid El-Amin, who played for UConn and the Chicago Bulls; and Michael Sweetney, who played for Georgetown and the New York Knicks.
Chef Cockrell took the same philosophy to heart when thinking up new bar fare to add to the happy hour menu. These dishes, among the other selections from Mintwood’s new bar and lounge happy hour menu, are all shareable and less than $10. There are plans to add other seasonal dishes to the happy hour menu including moule frites with tomato and garlic broth with pancetta, fennel and crème fraiche, house-made duck and pork rillettes with pickled onions and rustic bread, and house-made Italian meatballs with tomato-basil sauce. The aforementioned happy hour specials at Mintwood Place are available Tuesday through Friday, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Saturday, from 5:30-7 p.m. and Sunday, from 5:30-9 p.m. Draft beer is available for $5, as well as select red, rosé, white and sparkling wines for $6, a featured cocktail of the day for $8 along with the new selection of bar snacks, priced from $5 to $10 each.
On December 7, This fifth-annual flag football tournament is a surefire way to kick off the winter season, so grab your friends and start prepping for the best event of the holidays. All teams are encouraged to bring at least five grocery bags worth of items for Bridges to Independence, but the team that collects the most nonperishables, toiletries and gift cards will receive a bonus reward. If you can’t win on the field, step up your game off the field for a great cause – or win both! After the holiday season has passed, you’ll be looking for a New Year’s resolution, and it’s no secret that gym subscriptions spike at the beginning of each year.
