Getting into Gear Reviews

Equipment companies rely on reviews to enable users to understand their products and, consequently, make informed choices when selecting equipment or clothes. Peak Mountaineering has been delighted to have worked with many big brands over the last decade and our review service has become highly regarded and increasingly sought after

Osprey Talon 6 Lumbar Pack Review

Our second Osprey running pack review comes from regular instructor and running enthusiast Stuart (please check out Ian’s review of the Duro 15 pack here). The Talon 6 is a running lumbar pack and it’s worth pointing out that, although a great option for running, this pack is also suitable for mountain biking or even lightweight walking

Rjukan Ice

There is an excellent accommodation infrastructure, quality guidebooks, efficient travel options from the UK and over 150 ice routes ranging from gentle single pitchers perfect for beginners through to multi pitch challenges that will test the budding ice Jedi. The broad range of single and multi-pitch climbs will both inspire and test and don’t even think you’ll have those long walk ins - a few Rjukan routes are roadside, some we abseil into and many are only a short walk through the forest. Advanced/Private Guiding - If you have considerable summer and winter climbing experience you may like to consider a more bespoke option. Over the years we have stayed at a variety of options and find a self catered option works best - we have plenty of good options up our sleeve.

Aquaprove Water Purification

Over many years of mountain travel I have used all three options and all have their pros and cons, but most frequently nowadays I use chemical treatment on longer trips and particularly in developing countries. Again, I have tried many chemical treatment options and again they all do a great job, but this Top Gear choice is all about one of my favourites and the one we offer to clients on our overseas trips. Each time you want to treat some water you simply add 4 drops per litre into your drink bottle, wait 5 minutes and your water is ready to drink. The only disadvantages to Aquaprove are that you always need to carry the whole bottle even if you only need to treat a small amount of water.
