Enjoying the Small Things

After attempting cute wall displays of books in Nella’s room, we had to get rid of the wall shelves because A: they kept pulling out of the wall, even though we used anchors; and B: we didn’t really have the wall space for them. Because of the way Nella’s room is laid out, I envisioned some kind of low shelf on legs at the end of her bed but couldn’t find what I wanted anywhere. I had one 7.25 inch width board cut to 36 inches for the base, and then had a 5.5 inch width board cut into four pieces (two x 36 in., two x 8.75 in) for the sides. MATERIALS 1 – 7.25 in width board cut to 36 inches 2 – 5.5 in width board cut to 36 inches 2 – 5.5 in width board

We’re passing out awards here today for the deserving cars from our youth. If you managed to go through your teens unscathed by the character-building experience of watching your friend climb in her shiny barely used Bonneville while you repositioned the duct tape on your Ford Escort station wagon fender so it wouldn’t fall off when you slammed the door, good for you

Spring Wardrobe Must Haves

What Wear maxi skirt, a $12 graphic tee and two pairs of sunglasses under $20! ). I wear it with nude clogs to make my legs look longer, but you could totally wear sneakers for a more casual look, or heels to dress it up. Another graphic tee/maxi combo with a current Who What Wear skirt (at Target now) What Wear Polka Dot Skirt (the one I’m wearing, under $30! )

I started wearing lipstick when I was a teenager, awkwardly stumbling into the makeup world with a multi-year commitment to Revlon’s Toast of New York, a brownish almost red that was popular in the 90’s and was a safe enough step down from a fiery red for a churchy homeschooled girl who burned her BMG CD collection because it was worldly. While I don’t wear red lipstick everyday (I’m having a current affair with Red’s cousin, Pinky Nude), I will forever be entranced by its instant transformative powers. I use red lipliner when I’m wearing red lipstick–or at least a super tedious application so that there’s no red bleeding out past my lip line. Sometimes, if I’m wearing something orangey, I’ll wear an orangey red lipstick; but for the most part, I like a classic red that has cooler tones because it makes your teeth look whiter.
