The 7 MVP’s of my Remote Year Suitcase

When I initially decided to work and travel the world through Remote Year last year, “ I’m more than two months into my Remote Year program this year (here’s my first month recap/reflections) and there’s a handful of clear cut essentials and sartorial life-savers that have since emerged — plus, a handful of things I’ve since shipped home (since I hadn’t worn or used them once). I’ve never really been a headscarf kinda gal until this year (or until Remote Year, really)

Goodbye, Africa. Hello, Europa!

I’m writing to you from my new European outpost this afternoon — lovely Lisbon — this month’s Remote Year destination and my home for the month of March. If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you might have seen that I transitioned to Europe over the weekend after spending two months in Africa (four weeks in Cape Town and five in Morocco)

Remote Year Reflections: Month One

Yesterday, I was joking with our program leader, Jen, that publishing a blog post while on Remote Year is a lot like trying to cross the street in Marrakech (where we’re living at the moment) It’s been about eight weeks since I left Chicago to embark on a fourth-month journey with Remote Year. Today’s post is dedicated to my first month on Remote Year — in Cape Town — and how the experience has impacted me from the very moment that I stepped off the plane. It’s hard to put into words what the experience itself has been like, but I’ll try — and I only found it fitting to do so through a love letter to the city that helped me find my footing from the get-go this year

Where to Take Photos in Chefchaouen

Postcards from Morocco’s most photogenic city, Chefchaouen — plus where to find (exact locations of) the best Instagram photo spots. Salaam is a traditional Moroccan greeting which loosely translates to hello/peace/how are you/etc — and yes, Morocco is where I am at the moment! Our Remote Year group transitioned from Cape Town to Marrakech at the end of January — and we’ll be spending the next four weeks living in The Red City of Morocco
