Training for - Boston 2018 💙💛
The race I chose to run was the Triple Lakes Trail 40 miler in Greensboro, NC. The week before the race we got a notice from the race director that the course had changed. Even if I was going to crawl all the way to the finish line, I was determined to finish the race. Thank you Triple Lakes Trail race for putting on one heck of a race.
It isn’t like throwing away a pair of running shoes you don’t like. I finished that race in 2h06 and for someone who was running on a blade and who had not trained for a Half marathon or who had never run that distance before, I thought the result was pretty good. I always thought a Marathon is for the really fast and good runners and people that have been running for years, but an opportunity came up for me to run the Chicago marathon I also get a lot of feedback on my Instagram account about people who didn’t feel like running, but when they see my post they put their running shoes on and go out for a run.
I started running in 2016 and have done a few half marathons but decided I wanted to see if I could manage a Marathon. Last week I made the decision to run the Chicago Marathon for women with cancer and will be raising funds for the Barnett-Searing National Cancer Foundation (BSNCF). I have been involved with them for a very short time but in that short time I have came across a lot of very courageous women fighting cancer, some who unfortunately have lost their battle. I am one of the lucky ones to have survived cancer and so I am running this race for all those courageous women fighting to survive just like I did.
If you didn’t know me then you would never have noticed that I was an amputee that is how well I hid my leg. My running journey started in 2016. I can’t hide my leg when I am running I now have confidence to show my leg and even wear shorts or dresses during the day when I am not running.
