DIY Golden Beads Mat

I’m sharing with you how I made a quick and inexpensive Montessori golden beads addition/subtraction mat. The large green square fits 4 thousand cubes, the red fits 2 hundred squares, the blue fits 10 ten bars and the small green fits a lot of little golden beads units! The white squares fit my small number cards (the thousands are just under 5 in long) so if you have large number cards, make sure to adjust the white squares and the black background accordingly. Here are some good videos to watch for the presentations: Static Addition Dynamic Addition Static Subtraction (find the Montessori math workbook in my favorite resources page) Dynamic Subtraction If you are new to Montessori math and need more help, I recommend checking out Montessori Tube Academy.

DIY Activity Gym

and then when I received 2 mobiles from Sarah at The Prepared Environment, I knew I had to find a baby activity gym. * Not as pretty (you could can paint it) PVC pipe: find at your local hardware store, I bought 2 ten foot half inch pipes and used 15 ft PVC fittings: I bought mine at Menards, they are often called 3 way elbows, make sure you get the same size as your pipes Measure and cut 5 three foot pieces and put them into the elbows. Use your measuring tape to mark 3 foot sections on your PVC pipes. You can paint the pipe, but use neutral, calm colors as to not distract the baby from the mobiles.

DIY Sandpaper Numbers

You can use sandpaper, glitter paint, felt or any fabric that would have a contrasting feel with the paper. If you want to make them with sandpaper or fabric: either print out numbers, trace them, cut and glue or just write them out by hand, cut, and glue. The aim of the sandpaper numbers is to teach the child how to trace (and eventually, write) all the numbers. From my understanding, the number 0 is only presented after the spindle box and the concept of 0 is presented.
