Eat the rainbow! ๐ŸŒˆ @meshek_havivian_

Many years ago when the kids were little, I used to make quinoa pizza bites every single week for lunches. ๐Ÿ• Itโ€™s probably been three or four years since I actually made these, but for some reason, I started thinking about them again and thought what a ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ง๐˜ฆ๐˜ค๐˜ต ๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ-๐˜ฑ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ฌ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ธ๐˜ข๐˜ด ๐˜จ๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ-๐˜ง๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ that everyone could eat and that wasnโ€™t delivery pizza. โฃ โฃ Although this recipe isnโ€™t perfect, I invite you to play around with it a bit and let me know what you think. Oh come on man!

This kid is heading to fifth grade and Iโ€™m so excited. ๐Ÿฅณ Fifth grade was one of my personal favorites in school. Me and my six BFFs (we were the Magnificent Seven) owned the grade and our teacher Mr.Eaves was the absolute best (yes, we had a plaque made for him at the end of the year). It was a year of creating our own magazine with features about different, cool kids in our class, being responsible for the aviary filled with finches in the back of the classroom, and designing what would become a beautiful outdoor space for generations to come (and it was actually finished the year after we graduated elementary school, so we came back for the ribbon cutting). Fifth grade was magic. And I hope that Asher has the same experience but maybe better. He had a core friend group, a passion for drawing and Lego, and has fallen in love with fantasy reads (he finished Harry Potter recently)! I canโ€™t wait to see what Asher does. ๐Ÿ˜

Iโ€™ve started this thing where at the start of the month I buy a bunch of chicken and package it up with marinades and other goodies to freeze. Then, when Shabbat comes, I just pull out a bag, defrost, and bake! Many of the marinades I use come from @peaslovencarrots but this one was a โ€œI have some almost empty jars of marinara, roast peppers, and capers, plus a smattering of black and green olives.โ€ It just so happens that those ingredients basically make a puttanesca. ๐Ÿคฉ So I put everything in a big bag, froze it on July 1, and defrosted this past Friday for Shabbat. As it cooked, everyone kept saying โ€œit smells like pizza!โ€ I served it with rice, but it will forever be known as pizza chicken. ๐Ÿ• If youโ€™re not filling your freezer with ready-to-bake chicken, I highly recommend it. Even if you buy bottled marinades, itโ€™s so de-stressing to know that you always have something ready to cook in the freezer. Or maybe thatโ€™s just me? Let me know in the comments! ##kosher #cooking #beingjewish #food #ohmylicious #kosherfood #koshercooking #kashrut #roastchicken #cookbook #eattherainbow #puttanesca

If I were a @lego minifig, is this what Iโ€™d look like? Ash thinks so! Take the poll and let me know.

I love (#glutenfree) cake (with #blueberries). This particular cake is sporting plenty of almond flour and a bit of @bobsredmillโ€™s cup-for-cup gluten-free baking flour for balance. Donโ€™t ask me for the recipe because I already forgot where it came from. #baking #glutenfreebaking

When a pizza box signals the end of the world.

Please donโ€™t try this at home. Or on a mountaintop. #dumbwaystodie

Ner Chanukah: A Mitzvah Chaviva

Rambam says that the Chanukah lights are a mitzvah chaviva hi ad meod, or an exceedingly precious or cherished mitzvah (Hilchot Megillah v'Chanukah 4:12). By taking on the mitzvah of the Menorah precisely as HaShem commanded, Aharon embodied and delivered on the essence of what the Menorah symbolized Be of the disciples of Aharon, loving peace and pursuing peace, loving mankind and drawing them close to the Torah.โ€ From Aharon and the Menorah to the miracle of Chanukah and the rededication of the Holy Temple, we have the Chanukiyah. Although the mitzvah of lighting the Chanukiyah could be performed through a spouse, partner, or shaliach, it's such a precious and cherished mitzvah that โ€” like Aharon with the Menorah โ€”

The Difference: Menorah versus Chanukiyah

Each night of Chanukah the shamash is lit first and then the candles are lit one by one for each night, from left to right (unless you follow another tradition or opinion). And six branches are running out from its sides, three branches of the lamp-stand from its one side and three branches of the lamp-stand from its other side. Three cups shaped like flowers of almond are on the one set of branches, with knobs and blossoms alternating, and three cups shaped like flowers of almond on the other set of branches, with knobs and blossoms alternating. And on the lamp-stand are four cups shaped like flowers of almond, with its knobs and its blossoms alternating.

Holiday Lights: Reconciling Traditions from a Non-Jewish Childhood for My Jewish Kids

Weโ€™d get out the boxes and boxes of Christmas ornaments and set up the Christmas tree with painstaking precision. When we lived in Southern Missouri, a short drive from the Precious Moments Park & Chapel, weโ€™d drive out every year for Christmas to see the light displays there and go through a drive-through display at a large Catholic Vietnamese institute run by a group of priests. One year, when she finally decided she was done with Christmas and the tree, she sent me one of her mirrored ornaments shaped like the Star of David, so I could always have a piece of the family tree with me. Giant inflatable Santa Clauses and nativity scenes aside, the lights are bringing a beautiful light into the darkest time of the year, and itโ€™s an innocent way I can bring my children into a space that for me has great meaning and history.
