Not only are these CMS’ easier to use than prior methods, but their open-source code allows for simple plug-and-play technologies like analytics, customer relationship marketing (CRM) tracking, testing software, and search engine optimization plugins. Businesses without proper analytics tracking set up don’t have the insights into how their website performs, what content drives user engagement, and what marketing efforts drive the best ROI. HotJar and ClickTale are tools that can help you determine how users are moving through the site and uncover opportunities to improve engagement Alternatively, A/B testing tools like WVO or Optimizely allow businesses to determine what page layouts, content, and user flows convert the most users to maximize revenue. Biometric data used to identify someone There are a few exceptions carved out, such as for certain non-profits, public health, customer service, or personal data “manifestly made public by the data subject” (think public tweets or public statements). As a UX engineer, I’m always testing my work on different devices, screen sizes, and so forth, considering how users are interacting with a site. Google’s testing lab started out as a small room with monitors and cameras, but evolved into a lab on wheels! Whether it’s working on a redesign on an outdated CMS platform, figuring out how to rearrange a site structure without negatively affecting SEO, or how to transform a long lead generation form into a digestible chunk, we have to solve a problem while ensuring we don’t create more down the road. I had the pleasure of listening to Lara Tacito, Senior Manager of Product Design at HubSpot, talk about the process and challenges the team faced while building the new system.
Lastly, the web development community is freed up to use our work to build even better things that we’ll be able to benchmark or use in the future. Half of our engineers contributed to a mixture of public projects and open source projects that Imarc engineers created and maintains for the community to use, for free. Because Imarc’s value isn’t in what we’ve already built, but in what we can build next, it's important for us to give back to the web community, because there's a lot of work we do that others may not achieve. While it's equally important for these open source projects to look for help in writing documentation, translations, or logo and visual design, we use our expertise to help debug and add features to the software we rely on.
