There is a wide selection of vegan meals, and it’s also a great stop for fresh smoothies and juices too (nothing like a shot of turmeric to see you on your way! ). NB: There is also a much smaller Powell’s store in Hawthorne too, but I’d definitely recommend checking out the original City of Books if you’re in the downtown area. The extra cool thing about it is there’s a creepy old witch’s house (well, what’s left of it) and you can hike there quite easily. The first thing was to choose the park, and then the agency with which I would book the safari. Ella -> Mirissa -> Hikkaduwa -> Colombo, so the best thing for me was to visit Udawalawe or Yala on my way from Ella to the beach… let’s see how I decided which one to choose. Yala is one the most well known parks in the country, and as such I understood that it could be pretty crowded; when I was gathering information about Yala I often read how jeeps often goes too close to the animals, ending up bothering them. You will need a jeep to visit the park, you can book it in advance or just choose one of them in front of the entrance (not recommended at all, it may be cheaper but you won’t have to opportunity to check reviews about that companies).
Travelling in Europe in so fun, not just being there, which is obviously great, but the getting from place to place is just more fun by train. Trains, IMHO, are a vastly superior form of land transportation (Greyhounds are obviously awful and driving is just tiring) so getting to take the train everywhere is such a treat (the UK trains had it down, coming around to your seat with a cart well stocked with wine, tea and snacks)
Being a vegan in Thailand is hard. Animal products, especially meat, just sit there glistening in all their sad deceased glory everywhere you look
