NFL Network has begun releasing their annual Top 100 list, and two Patriots made an appearance on Tuesday’s episode. Wide receiver Julian Edelman came in at 90 while safety Devin McCourty came in one spot later at 89. Devin McCourty isn’t the borderline top-five safety he once was, but he’s still an above-average starter capable of doing a little bit of everything. McCourty’s speed allows him to take away the deep part of the field, and his coverage skills allow him to drop into the slot and line up against tight ends, receivers, and running backs.
Returner Andre Roberts was a first-team All-Pro at age 30, and kicker Jason Myers made the Pro Bowl after draining 33 of 36 field goals. Let’s take a look at what Brant Boyer will have to work with for 2019, in the final positional piece of the 2019 New York Jets Preview series! Today, because there are so many competitions and questions up in the air surrounding the unit, let’s go position by position instead… Coming off of a Pro Bowl season, many fans expected former General Manager Mike Maccagnan to make retaining Jason Myers a priority. The 2019 New York Jets Preview series has gone player by player and position by position taking a look at who could be on the Jets 2019 roster.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates and Adam Schefter, wide receiver Julian Edelman is currently battling a thumb injury and won’t participate for about three weeks. Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman, spotted at his youth camp over the weekend with a small brace over his left thumb (see below photo), is expected to be sidelined about three weeks due to the injury, league sources tell @FieldYates and me. Picking up New England’s defense is notoriously difficult, and these players could use as many reps as possible to develop chemistry with Brady. Missing a few practices and preseason games won’t change that, and the three-week recovery timeline means that Edelman will have a few practices to knock off the rust before the regular season begins.
He’s got a chance to have a good season again, especially since Flacco is pretty decent with the deep pass. Phillip Lindsay came out of nowhere as an undrafted free agent last year for the Broncos, but he’s already their most dynamic offensive player for sure. He worked his way up the depth chart, and ultimately finished the 2018 season with 1,037 yards and 1,278 in total, as well as 10 total touchdowns. Though it’s not clear if he’ll be getting the bulk of all carries in 2019, he’ll still be making plenty of impact due in part to his receiving ability as well.
