Making modern homes on modest budgets, for clients across the country // IG: @annabode
The company takes incredible homes new to the market and stages them with the best in modern design — with a caveat: almost everything in each house was made right here in Denver, and each space is completely shoppable. You may remember we partnered with Guest House earlier this year on the Cherokee Loft – and now we’re at it again, this time with the incredible Canvas Series 05 house. Designed by architects Michael P. Johnson and Christian Butler with interiors by Mark Knudson of Sovereign, this beautiful 3,000 sq ft space was the perfect backdrop to everything Guest House has to offer. We are lucky to have been able to partner with Snowe on the bedding and tableware and Interior Define on the upholstery, which means if you book an appointment you can experience their products in person for a limited time.
If you’ve been following the series you’ll have seen the living room and bedroom already, but today we’re talking all about the dining room! In the photos above you can see the front door; the top right photo is the view as you walk into the space and the top left is the room off to the right in which we created the dining room. In between the bathroom/kitchen (behind the concrete column) and the dining room is a foyer-like space that you walk through to get to the living room. I’ve had a light, neutral vintage rug in my dining room for two years with two kids and it looks just as good as the day I bought it.
the original 1920s brick (this building was a Cadillac service garage), the floors were taken from Pullman cars and the wall opposite the bed is actually an open railing that looks over the living room to those gorgeous windows below. We were scrambling a bit to actually find a locally-made bed but We partnered with Parachute to use a combination of their percale, linen, and matelasse collections to add texture and depth and then draped this oh-so-soft vintage alpaca blanket over the end for extra coziness. The surprising thing about this bedroom is that it’s pretty large, so the key to making it cozy was to add in a bit more furniture.
There are no windows (SIGH) so the room was big black hole of sadness: The floor was a vinyl-like tile, the ceiling and walls were entirely open, and there was one depressing light bulb with a pull switch that lit the whole space. We also used Semihandmade’s DIY slab shelf in a custom length above the sink and painted it Simply White by Benjamin Moore to match the room’s trim (and the walls in the rest of our house). The shelf was super easy to install because it comes in two pieces; there’s a long metal piece with supports welded to it that you attach to the wall wherever your studs are, and then the shelf itself which you simply slide on (it’s hollow). The rest of our home is Simply White but we used BM White Dove here and it is subtle enough that the contrast between the trim and walls doesn’t bother me.
