There are very few thriller contemporary books out there with an Asian main character and discussions about the immigrant experience, and so I thought this book was going to be everything I ever dreamed of.
Obviously, we know from the synopsis that she becomes obsessed with her privileged classmate (yes, it is a white male named Gideon), and I thought this was going to be an interesting dynamic.
In my opinion, these conversations never shone through and what I thought was going to be an immigrant story, quickly took a backseat.
