Again, we are human, but people mirror the respect you emit into the world so, hold your head high, walk with confidence, and wear a broad-shouldered 80s blazer if you want to make a point. I will never forget a meeting during where one man, let’s call him Jake, felt the need to express his distress about the recent tough quarter we had by standing up, walking around the room and yelling for 15 minutes straight. Sanna Marin of Finland, Angela Merkel of Germany and Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan have all also been internationally recognized for unifying their countries with clear, comprehensive plans and compassionate communication in response to the pandemic.
Having grown up in Silicon Valley during the late 1980s and early 1990’s, I’ve always been an early adopter of productivity tools and technology in general. I’ve been lucky enough to work on lots of exciting and unique events, from the HoloLens2 launch event to a 40,000-person post conference party at the Las Vegas International Motor Speedway but I think one of the most exciting projects I’ve worked on was the challenge of taking an in-person conference to a virtual, digital environment in just under six weeks while the world started locking down amid a global pandemic. Not only did I have to translate my skill set into a completely new format, we were also creating a new event type, on a very short runway all while navigating multiple unknowns and many of our staff and speakers living in the US COVID-19 epicenter.
As a company who employs top-tier talent to work with tech titans like Microsoft and Facebook, we have an intentional focus on championing female leaders in the tech space. Another exciting project that I worked on is my own non-work, related passion project where I created a dance festival focusing on diversity on the dance stage. and I took the opportunity to create our own dance festival where we could highlight diversity on stage and Tint Dance Festival was born. Changes in attitudes of social norms; support of STEM programs building the pipeline of women into tech; and realization of tech companies that diversity in the workforce improves profitability are creating better equity in the tech industry.
