A Day in Supetar on Brač Island (a Photo Essay)

During our two months in Split, every weekend we tried to take at least one day to explore something new. Then, as the sun shone bright and the cold winds mostly disappeared, we turned our attention to the islands. Starting with Brač, the island closest to us and easiest to access. Every two hours or so, a ferry leaves to make the 50-minute crossing to one of Brač’s main towns:

Hiking from Omiš to Starigrad Fortress

A quick stop on a short motorcycle trip down the coast with a Croatian friend many years ago when I first visited Split. The trail is steep and rocky, so if you plan to go, wear good hiking shoes (I like Salomon trail running shoes), bring plenty of water, and take it slow on the way down What we found to be true is this: If you want to go to Omis, walk to Split’s old town and locate the bus station just outside the fresh market (here it is on the map). On the way back, just go to the bus stop across the street from the one you got off at and take the bus or shuttle back to Split.

What To Do/See/Eat in Lausanne (According to Locals)

I recommend exploring the winding, multi-leveled streets of the old town, strolling up to the cathedral, experiencing the farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays (in old town from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.), going on hikes through the Lavaux vineyards, visiting the Olympic Museum, taking a boat ride across Lac Léman to France, having a glass of local wine at the lake, and, last but not least, eating fondue! There are also lots of museums here, including Musée de l’Elysée (the world-renowned Olympic museum), the Natural History Museum in the city center, Palais de Rumine (a palace housing several museums), and Musée de l’Hermitage ( There’s one big one near where I live called Parc de Valency and it’s nice because you have a view of the lake. And when it comes to bars, choose Le Comptoir (at Rue de la Barre 1) for cocktails, Yatus (at Rue du Petit-Chêne 11) for wine, and Café Bruxelles (at Place de la Riponne 1) for beer.

Behind the Scenes at my Location-Independent Business, Q1 2019

I’m a freelance copywriter and content strategist who has been self-employed for 8+ years and traveling the world full-time (working mostly from Europe) for about 7. I’m still doing a little bit for existing clients, but I’ve been turning down new projects and since my content work is both more lucrative and more enjoyable They aren’t a huge source of income for me, but it’s always nice to have a little extra I can count on every month (especially in slow months or during vacation when I’m not actively putting in billable time). It’s also worth noting that I’m not counting the time I’m working on Vicious Foodie in that part-time schedule.
