In the “before times” it would have been the perfect spot to pop into for a dessert, coffee, and/ or cocktail and a cruise around candle shopping (it’s luxe – their most expensive candle is approximately $600) or even a bachelorette activity in the lab! We pumped up some early 90’s tunes and got to work smelling the various fragrances and determining picks for top notes, middle notes, and base notes. We mixed our oils (I selected citrus [bergamot blend], aromatic [mixed herbs], and musk [amber blend]) into the hot wax, stirred (in a very particular manner – do not try this unsupervised at home!), and poured into the vessel. I selected the Indigo blue vessel for my candle, and named it with some lyrics from one-hit-wonder Canadian boy band B-4-4 due to the use of scent B4 as my base note.

This year, I had almost given up on getting cozy under a blanket on a hay bale ride, holding hands on a Hallowe’en haunt (for safety purposes, of course), and sneaking in cinnamon smooches in between sips of apple cider at the orchard as autumn leaves start to fall. We may have missed the Canadian National Exhibition (and its incredible CNE Food Hall) due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its restrictions, but we’re lucky to have had the option to pivot with this super sweet pop-up! The whimsical experience had lots of unique food and drink options including a Tiki Bar with licenced patio and one of a kind drinks, unique soft serve ice creams, a 10 Foot Wood Fire BBQ Pit and 16 food stations with lots of vegetarian items. Unique Eats and Treats (think items served in pumpkins, Candy Corn Corn on the Cob, Wood-Fired Pizza, Butternut Squash Ravioli served IN a Squash, Thanksgiving Margaritas, and Pumpkin Spice Moscow Mules)

Its viral status on social media came as a result of Jung Il-woo, a South Korean actor who visited an eatery in Macau where he was served a similar beverage reminding him of “dalgona“, a type of Korean honeycomb toffee, and later presented on a South Korean TV show called Stars’ Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant It’s got mountains and beaches which you can visit all in the same day, but what it didn’t exactly have was good coffee. When I was thinking about this new instagram trend, it seemed so ludicrous that people in countries like mine where there’s access to phenomenal coffee would opt for instant. The Directors at the first school at which I worked would provide little dixie cups of instant coffee for teachers and parents alike even in important meetings.
