It’s a great weekend to start planning your gardening updates and revamps and look at areas which may need a little love after a harsh winter to get them looking glossy for the summer ahead. This is essential, not only when it comes to maintenance (because large pots hold more water for longer than small ones) but because large containers add a feeling of generosity and grandeur to a space (we all want that don’t we? ). My favourite, low-maintenance container plants are: Ferns – any evergreen fern, repeated in containers will add understated chic to any area. In a pot though, it’s perfect Herbs – Lavender, rosemary, bay and mint are all herbs that do really well in large containers, with the added benefit that they’ll scent your surroundings and provide herbs for your kitchen.
For our latest Shopping Guide, we headed to Coal Drops Yard in Kings Cross and enlisted the help of one my favourite blogger pals Kate Hiscox from Wears My Money. Needless to say, the sniffing journey continued… For the next part of our Coal Drops Yard shopping guide we then headed to Wolf & Badger which famously plays host to cutting edge independent brands and is an Aladdin’s cave of shopping happiness. We loved a snoop around American Vintage, and a drool over all things LA inspired in Twiin Store, which is a concept store dedicated to socially conscious fashion labels with a twist of unadulterated eclectic vintage meets contemporary vibes. We finished up our Coal Drops Yard shopping guide reccie with a little lunch at Barrafina, a delicious walk-in authentic Spanish tapas bar, with an open kitchen
The ideal item would preferably have a waist-cinching belt (or the ability to add one without making it look out of place), and maybe a few utility pocket details for good measure. I picked this shirt dress up from Massimo Dutti a few weeks back (which I’m slowly finding is becoming my go-to brand for slightly smart yet chic choices these days). This season all things utility are hot, so if you can find one in a khaki with a bunch of utility pockets you’ve hit double trend paydirt. This season I’m also quite partial to anything floral or animal print, as well as dresses in diaphanous materials like chiffon or silk which look pretty damn good in a dress form when paired with a cute denim jacket and sneakers or a tailored blazer and heels.
Whenever Spring rolls around, and closet switch-ups are due, with Winter garb being retired and all the new season lighter brighter layers being unleashed, it’s the perfect time to consider a few new trends. So I reckon any Spring suit is a closet hero, but when it comes to a pastel suit, there’s something about it which screams chic seasonal style and has you dreaming of warmer days to come as soon as you don it. This season’s suits come in an array of lighter layers like linens, cotton, cotton poplin and crepe which make them super versatile and great for light layering while the weather is still untrustworthy. When it comes to nabbing the best suit for your body shape, keep in mind that a double-breasted blazer adds width to your silhouette around the midriff, so if you’re in the no-defined-waistline, bigger boobs territory a single-breasted blazer is a better choice for you.
