Hey everybody! I hope I don’t break my NDA by releasing this (just kidding, this is all planned). I’ve actually been sitting on my hands for a few days waiting to share this
Another Utah-based hammock company, the Gear Hackers Evolution Insulated Hammock features premium 850+ FP down top and under quilts that have been permanently attached to a 1.6 oz 40D breathable ripstop nylon hammock. I want my kids to sleep warm and comfortable and I’ve found that insulated hammocks make this work so well. Laying diagonally is easily done, but because the quilt is sewn into the hammock, I have to play with the zipper position and baffles to keep things out of my face. I haven’t been cold yet, but I can always add another lightweight quilt inside if needed.
A single mini carabiner clips to the hammock suspension on the top, and D-rings on both sides attach to quilt hooks (pack hooks) or grip the side of the hammock with alligator clips. I love how hammocks allow for stand-up access, and keeping gear off the ground is ideal for me, so I like how the Sunset Saddle Bags allow this access. I found that I didn’t need the shock cord, so I took the alligator clips and connected them directly to the mitten hooks which clipped to the Saddle Bag’s D-rings. Mini Biner—The included mini biner makes it easy to clip the peak of the Saddle Bag to the hammock suspension, but for a more permanent (and gram-weenie lighter) solution, I removed the biner and slipped the loop on the end over my suspension, tucked under the ridgeline for more security.
Netted mesh peak bags at both ends of the hammock are large enough to store the bug net when unzipped and other small gear items. The spacious side storage pouch is sewn to the side of the hammock, similar to open style hammocks, but is large enough to hold the hammock, bug net, suspension, and other items. The deep sag of the hammock, along with a diagonal lay, helps to press the bug netting away from your face without the need of side pull outs. One thing I love about testing cottage vendor gear is that I can nearly always count on it reflecting the most up-to-date research and trends on what really works.
