I came across this in a book I read called ‘The Wait’, it’s stuck with me because I’ve spent so much time trying to change someone into who I thought I wanted them to be, and in doing so forgot why I fell in love with them in the first place. Because if you’re making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, make new mistakes, make glorious, amazing mistakes […] don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect. Don’t just rely on your boss to know you’re doing a good job, make sure their boss knows too (and don’t think of it as blowing your own trumpet, merely getting the recognition you deserve). It’s interesting that the right advice hits us at the right time, and hopefully some of these words resonated with you.
It’s African as fuck, but it basically means don’t compare yourself to others, like people are not equal, so don’t spend your time checking for what other people are doing. I don’t know if I made it up, or I heard it on Twitter, but it’s to know and believe in your work. Some people are going to like it and some people are going to think you are shit, it’s fine, don’t be too precious. Hopefully I’ll do some more posts like this as I curate the motivations and mantras of people
(I kind of don’t want to know the answer to this) I’m reflecting on my time here largely due to the fact that as of this evening I don’t live there anymore (evidence below). And for anyone else out there who’s going through a period of self-doubt, I’d extend three pieces of advice: Travel – Pretty self explanatory, but I used to live life expecting everyone to let me down, which left little room for awesome new friendships in my twenties. Physical stuff like salsa or yoga are my bag, but it could be anything from joining a local running group or book club, to your local WI
London’s my favourite city in the world, this comes with no bias because I live here, it genuinely is. You can hear the audible stampede of workers darting out the door to spend the maximum amount of time outside. Summer in London’s also the best time to people watch, but if you don’t have the art down, you risk going from the peeper to the peep-ee. I was able to pap from my balcony on a ‘light jacket weather’ kind of day in Shoreditch 2015.
