Our little fellow kept going for the best part of three hours, generating energy with food from the kiosk next door and then burning it all off. We found this great enclosed playground because we wanted to visit a few places in Newtown, and the little fellow had a great time. It’s just back from Watsons Bay ferry wharf, and the playground is in a mainly shaded spot a minute’s walk from there. There’s no playground in Nielsen Park, but where better to play than one of the best beaches in Sydney Harbour?
Our Little Man adores animals, and had his heart set on visiting Collingwood Childrens Farm before we arrived in Melbourne. He had seen some of the Melbourne attractions around the CBD, and Luna Park the night before, so he needed a change of pace. We showed our Little Man many of the best things to do in Melbourne with kids, and the Collingwood kids farm proved one of his favourites. The Collingwood Children’s Farm was set up to introducing kids in Melbourne to farm animals and give themselves a taste of the country. We ended up having to spend almost an hour there before the Feed Walk, and our Little Man was getting frustrated that he had to wait to feed the animals.
The Brighton Beach Huts aren’t the best publicised of Melbourne attractions and they’re not the easiest place to reach. We caught the Sandringham line train from Flinders Street Station in Melbourne CBD, and alighted at Middle Brighton station, on Church Road. We followed some signs to ‘Brighton Bathing Boxes’, and ended up on Park Street, which we followed to The Esplanade. Visiting the Brighton Beach Huts is definitely up there with the best things to do in Melbourne for families.
One of the most fun things to do in Melbourne is to take the family to Luna Park, the famous old amusement park in the suburb of St Kilda. It’s exhilarating for an adult, so imagine what it’s like for a four-year-old. We suggest public transport wherever possible, especially within cities, and Melbourne public transport to St Kilda and Luna Park is excellent. If you’re staying in St Kilda or spending more time in the suburb, it’s well worth seeking out the St Kilda Adventure Playground.
