With Earth Day around the corner, we asked Sotheby’s Home CEO Elizabeth Brown why shopping for vintage home goods is so necessary for the sustainability of our planet. As we approach Earth Day, we’re often inspired to find new ways to change our shopping habits to help curb our impact on the environment. For example, at Sotheby’s Home, every piece has been carefully vetted by curators who assess condition and authenticity in addition to verifying features, colors, measurements and more. Previously, Elizabeth served as the CEO of Viyet, a full-service online marketplace for high-end consignment furniture and décor, from shortly after its launch in 2013 until the company was acquired in February 2018 by Sotheby’s.
REFLECT is a fashion-focused editorial project that my best friend and creative partner-in-crime, Jenna Bechtholt (Seattle/LA-based wedding photographer) and I tackled together alongside our all-female crew of Seattle creatives. What’s it like to work with an all-female team on such an amazing project? As an art director, I work on a variety of tasks, but you can more often than not find me mood boarding, doing trend research, concepting for a photo shoot, on set at a photo shoot and collaborating with creative teammates. I used to think my 9-to-5 was dedicated to my job and every other hour had to be spent working on my side hustle, but I soon realized that my side hustle started to feel more like work instead of fun.
