Andria Apostolou, PhD, MPH, a Senior Epidemiologist serving as the Indian Health Service National STD Program Lead, coauthored a paper entitled Trends in Indicators of Injection Drug Use, Indian Health Service, 2010-2014: A Study of Health Care Encounter Data. The paper was published in Public Health reports and demonstrates increasing trends in Rates of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and HIV transmission in the United States as a result of increasing rates of opioid use disorder (OUD) in the American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) population. The US EPA has recognized Kevin Djang of Inoventures LLC's and his team at GDIT for their efforts supporting the US EPA's VELMA project during the 2018 contract year. VELMA is a spatially explicit, coupled hydrologic and plant/chemistry model. Embodied as a simulator application, the model is used by the EPA and EPA clients as a decision support tool for evaluating water resources and ecosystem service co-benefits. The VELMA development group is relatively small: Inoventures on-site personnel provide most of the software implementation, unit testing, and configuration management, for the simulator, and for its associated utility tools.

The paper was published in the Frontiers for Public Health journal , and promotes the Health Native Youth website, which has been a breakthrough in educating American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth about sexual health in an effective, yet age-appropriate way.
