Did you know that every child who comes to the Center gets to leave with a new toy just for themselves? Bringing a little bit of joy into a stressful situation can make all the difference in the world. The FRIENDS stage a toy drive every once in a while so that the Center never runs out of bright, colorful stuffed animals.
Not being able to see your siblings and extended family during the holidays is a sad situation. The FRIENDS teamed up with Epic Ohana’s High Hopes Board for a holiday “drive through” event themed “Strengthening Families and Building Memories”. Each participating foster family received a package filled with six days of family activities, a camera, film, and a fresh baked KTA pie.

Their donation of a carload of balls, gathered to keep abused and neglected children active and healthy during the pandemic, has been well received! For our fifth year, the Friends are honoring “friends” of the Friends on Saturday, April 25, 2020. Please click on BUY TICKETS at the bottom of this post. This year we honor Cathy Lowder, the Center’s original Program Director and former Friends’ Board Member and Ritchie Henderson, past Board President and part of the original group of Hilo area citizens who came together to begin the organization that is now the FRIENDS.. This year the Gala will be at the UH Hilo Campus Center, with No Host Cocktails and Silent Auction beginning at 5:30pm followed by dinner and program at 6:30pm.
