Let’s Talk Elder Financial Abuse

It makes sense, then, that I am the moderator of a panel on elder financial fraud put on by the long term care company Benchmark Senior Living and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. None Philip Marshall, famous for blowing the whistle on his father, who was stealing from his mother (Philip’s grandmother), well-known New York philanthropist Brooke Astor. None Liz Loewy, an attorney and former chief of the Elder Abuse unit for the Manhattan District Attorney’s office which brought a criminal complaint against Philip’s father. None John Hibbs, the senior managing director on Bank of America’s information security team.

A Spate of Speaking Events

I recently spoke at Babson College to students and faculty about entrepreneurial opportunities in the boomer and senior space. None They need to know about a huge market opportunity: creating products and services for aging baby boomers. Some are embedding themselves long term care facilities for a week or two—eating, sleeping there, getting to know the residents and their needs and refining their products.

ASJA Conference Recap

This one, in New York, was the annual American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA) meeting. It’s a chance to be with other writers, meet print and online editors from top venues (the New York Times, Woman’s Day, Sessions range from how to draft a killer book proposal to hearing from editors on how they like a story pitched to cracking content marketing. * Hearing that one minute of video is equal to 1.8 million words (Forrester research) confirming that I need to improve my video skills

Panelist at the What’s Next Boomer Summit

Back to San Francisco for more conferences: the What’s Next Boomer Summit and the annual American Society on Aging (ASA). Attendees include such companies as Google and Hasbro (of toy dog-and-cat- for-dementia fame), start-ups, venture capitalists, industry experts and journalists. * Shared sites (i.e. a senior center with a public library or high school or another, a fitness center, AARP tech and caregiver workshops as well as a Boys & Girls Club) In New Orleans, at Bastion, retired veterans, adult civilians live among wounded warriors from the Iran and Afghanistan wars and their families.
