A blog about fitness, clean eating, making whole foods delicious, wellness, and living a healthy lifestyle.
In a nutshell, I’d very recently moved to LA from Vancouver and knew that in order to fully enjoy my early time here, I needed to do something I haven’t done in the entire 8+ years of this blog’s existence: put it on the back burner. I wanted to let myself become fully immersed in my new adventure, having new experiences, settling into my new job, meeting new people and being open to whatever came my way. Third is that there’s a little – ok, a BIG – project happening behind the scenes: The blog is going to be undergoing some major rebranding surgery, including a new name! Although it scares me to think about how much work is involved, I’m SO excited to leap into this because it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a really, really long time.
Obviously getting used to a very new routine, meeting a whole bunch of new people and starting a new job isn’t something anyone does every day, so I knew that was most definitely playing a part. Summer is the perfect time for all of us to be outside and offline, and it wouldn’t feel right to tell you guys to unplug if I wasn’t practicing what I preached. It’s been this way from the start, and it’s time to zoom out and think about how to do it in a truly impactful way. Or, maybe you’ll see what I saw, which was the need to take something off my plate for a while in order to fully experience a new season of life and gain some new inspiration.
There’s been so much going on in this little brain of mine these days, so let’s skip the nutrition chat today in exchange for a little life update. I’d forgotten what it’s like to work in a smaller company where everyone can fit in the same room for weekly all-hands meetings. Most people I’ve talked to here love living in LA, but if there’s one thing they complain about, it’s traffic. These Maca Cashew Coconut Trail Mix Bars are great on-the-go fuel that can be made in big batches, wrapped individually and frozen until you need them.
A lot of recipes (I’m looking at you, potato and pasta salads! ) tend to be heavy on the creamy dressings and mayo – sometimes to the point where you taste a whole lot more mayo than potato! Healthy fats are only healthy if they’re not oxidized, and if you try to grill with extra virgin olive oil (or any other oils with low smoke points), it negates the benefits. Avocado oil, sunflower oil and safflower oil are all good choices provided they’re organic and non-GMO. One brand I really like for high quality high-heat oils is Spectrum Organics because of their non-GMO products and high sourcing standards.
