My dog has a "bucket list"

While I view euthanasia as a wonderful gift of mercy we are able to give to our pets, it’s still a very emotional and painful process for the family and the staff involved (including myself). Just simple things we can do to consciously make our pets lives better, give them some moments of joy, and give us the memories and stories we will need to carry us through the darkness when they are no longer there to brighten our world. Aslan’s list is simple, and it includes things like going to the beach, going for walks with the family, spending quality family time, ice cream, car rides, and most recently, SEEING SNOW! ! My heart was overflowing, seeing my old man prancing and rolling in the snow, scrunching his face up when snowflakes landed on it, and chasing the ball like a puppy again.

Hobie's New Year

This is the story of a tiny kitten, Hobie, who gives us a fate-filled, dominoes-falling-into-place, right-place-right-time, warm-and-fuzzy kind of adoption story. She received supportive care and lots of love and snuggles, but in the end she just couldn’t pull through, and her family said a tearful goodbye as she passed peacefully in their arms a few days later. This kitten, whose morning had started out so dismally, had a brand new life of love and companionship to look forward to. Maybe you don’t believe in fate, but it’s hard to deny that everything lined up perfectly to help this grieving family find some peace and joy just before Christmas.

preparing your pet for a natural disaster

If you need to stay in a hotel or shelter, most of them require your pet be up to date on vaccinations, so it's a good idea to keep your pet up to date so you aren't scrambling to get it done in the days before a storm hits. It's a good idea to have a stash of new toys to keep your pet's interest while they (you) are cooped up during the storm, or travelling to escape it. You may not be able to (or want to) go outside during or after the storm, so it's a good idea to have an area dedicated to your pet's potty needs.
