We heard tales of him roaming the boathouse in only his bathrobe, and of the many extra hours he spent on the StairMaster to build up the strength in his legs. In the last few years he has gained 40+ pounds of solid muscle, and now holds the C2 World Records for 1 minute (425 meters), 1000 meters on both the Rowing C2 (2:39.5) and the Skiing C2, and the Tandem Heavyweight Men’s 24 Hour Row (380,274 meters). His recent venture has been to break the 500 meter record (which he’s damn near close to) and his Instagram account is well worth a follow for some crazy erg screens, lifting, and rowing videos. One thing is for sure – we both love the suffer, the rush from throwing around some iron, and the challenge of acquiring new skills and chasing new athletic goals.
Mike and I purposefully left almost no gap in our transition from full-time training into full-time “life,” in an attempt to leap past the post-Olympic blues that came after London, and avoid the idle time that leads to the inevitable question of “ We are now deeply entrenched in both the Rowing and CrossFit communities, and are lucky to be working with a range of athletes spanning from juniors to masters, beginners to professionals, and National Teamers to CrossFit Games athletes. We’re coaching rowing specific group classes, running 1-on-1s both on the water and in the gym, and offering novel products that don’t exist anywhere else, like Rowing Video Analysis and Endurance Seminars coached by Olympians. We’re trying to take our experience and knowledge of strength training, mobility, and recovery to help athletes use their bodies how they are meant to be used, and tap into their fullest potential without breaking in the process.
