Talk of the Trains

Annie M was up early, dressed and accessorized to meet her new teacher and see her new classroom. ” Annie M smiled at the guessing game and Ms. P looked at her and thought for a moment before announcing, “Anne Margaret! We walked over to Anne Margaret’s seat for the year and Mrs. P walked us through her packet of information. ” Annie M looked puzzled (and mortified) but listened curiously as she continued on about, “how all know that one area in the room is known as ‘the gravity spot’ – and it gets everyone.

Listen For My Voice

Then throw in an umpire with a controversial call and include (#2 – see above) uncoordinated kids where we *actually* don’t know if they tagged the base or the player to get the out that was just called, and then add in the (#1 – above) where the parents are now directing their crazy towards the ump and that my friends, is an hour and fifteen minutes of anxiety filled competition at the tee ball level. As I have processed, the obvious implication is my ability to LISTEN for His voice and hear His voice amongst the crowd. It begs the question of my ability to discern where He is calling me to run, where He is telling me to hold my ground, where He is leading me and ultimately, my trust in Him in walking it out. But, when I listen, and when I hear, follow and trust, the reward is great, just like it is for these little boys and when they get around the bases to score a run.

Making Good Choices

I have no portion control, I am an emotional eater, have a hard time seeing food as fuel and sometimes I just want to eat what I want to eat when I want to eat it. The majority of patients Dr. Vickanir sees onsite are 18 and up, and lots that are 30’s-40’s and have young kids who they want to be able to be active with and watch grow up, or grandparents, who want to be their best version for their grandkids. As it relates to healthy eating and weight loss and the discussion we were having,  they help people to understand the chemical response that goes on in our bodies, the endorphins – feel good hormones when we eat and how we can work together to basically have a paradigm shift to how we see food. In Dr. Vicknair’s and GMC’s multiple pronged apporach to helping people like myself, onsite, they have people go through an initial screen and then throughout the program, they have support groups they can participate in which include behavioral topics (i.e. something like emotional eating), fitness and chats with registered dietitian.

Talk of the Trains

It’s more just a matter of a gentle reminder and a new perspective that the Lord opened my eyes to and He just happened to used a ski lift to do it. I realized that while I do spend time daily (or try to, at least) with each of them one-on-one, and while I do ask questions about their day and read with them and pray with them individually, I can’t say that it is always intentional time spent – distraction free or uninterrupted. Just Do It” and give up the time of cleaning or working or errands or whatever, for the 5-7 minutes of quality time, in a (relatively) undistracted environment and individually with each of my kids. The quality time with them, with God, with my husband – the “ski lift chats” if you will, to connect us, keep us close and focused and to help us as we walk through the slope a.k.a life ahead.
