Hi I'm Steph, long term budget traveller in her 30's dedicated to helping you spend less, travel more!
Feel free to shoot me a message through this page with any questions you may have…
I can certainly vouch for Mozambique being a safe country to travel as a solo female (I felt safer walking in the cities here than I did in South Africa for example) The city of Maputo is also a good place to visit in Mozambique for a night or 2, if only to see the contrast the capital has with the rest of the country, and there’s a couple of inland National Parks – namely Chimanimani and Gorongosa – that are meant to be interesting too, although sadly I’m yet to visit them. A mix of camping and accommodated nights, country bush and coastal bliss, well-priced and a small group size, with whom I could share the experience, this was the perfect budget tour for me as I got to take in 3 countries including a week in Mozambique. I bought a SIM card and a data package when I crossed into the country at one of the land borders with South Africa, from a guy hussling on the street.
Kruger National Park was the first and only place I’ve seen African Wild Dogs (very rare), and with both morning, afternoon, sunset and night drives available, the chances of spotting big cats, small cats, rhinos, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras and a whole heap of other wildlife you probably didn’t even know existed (have you heard of a honey badger for example? ) is high on a Kruger National Park safari. Another great thing I loved about my organised Kruger National Park experience with African Budget Safaris was that my package included some guided 4×4 game drives within the park. Nkambeni Safari Camp near the Numbi gate is a great option if you want to experience a Kruger National Park safari on a budget and this is where I stayed as part of my African Budget Safari organised experience. Rather than having to piece together the different elements of my Kruger National Park safari – how to get there, where to stay, how to drive in the park and where to go for the best wildlife spotting –
Head up to the Old Walls of the city just before sunset to avoid the crowds (as much as poss! ) and to snap the stunning city views and awesome Adriatic sea at its best. Pretty much whichever way you look at it, Prague is like something out a fairytale, and trying to decide which part of the city to include on this list for the most Instagrammable places in Eastern Europe was no mean feat! You will be pretty much snapping non-stop during your time in Eastern Europe and will need a good camera to do this gorgeous part of the world justice. The Best 5 Hostels in Berlin And finally, 13th on my list of the most Instagrammable spots in Eastern Europe has to go to perhaps my favourite city in the area – Sarajevo.
On Day 2 of your Cape Town itinerary, it’s time to continue the historical journey with a poignant trip to Robben Island – the penal colony where Nelson Mandela was held for a significant period of his incarceration. On Day 4 of your Cape Town itinerary, it’s time to head out of the city and explore some of the gorgeous landscapes around. Either beforehand or after your beach time, don’t miss a stroll or cycle along picturesque Sea Point and a hike up the iconic Lion’s Head for one of the best views of the 12 Apostles you can get. And finally, with just a couple of days remaining on your Cape Town itinerary, it’s time to head out of the city again, but this time to enjoy the Western Cape’s stunning Winelands.
