It must have been almost two years ago when I first had the pleasure of meeting Lorraine Lee, the face behind Talee (tah-lee) Studio. It all started with Lorraine’s father in Malaysia, who taught his daughter how to tie knots when she was young. Jumping forward a couple decades, Lorraine used the same techniques as a way of cognitive therapy for her father’s brain injury which resulted in short-term memory loss. Lorraine still frequently visits Malaysia (she’s is relocating there later this year), and while at home her knot tying has become a way of bonding with her father in hopes to “bring joy and the recollection of his memory and identity”.
I first found Emily (the creator of Chelsea King) on Instagram and instantly fell in love with the way she styled her pieces to be both dressed up and down. One thing that sticks out about Chelsea King’s styles in particular is the hold. It’s surprisingly difficult to find scrunchies that not only look good, but support every kind of hair type too. As someone who has fine hair, I was excited to find that these firmly hold my hair in place and seem to make my hair look fuller as well!
While we were away we had the opportunity to work with some amazing brands, including one of my local favourites, Faun Studio Bringing Faun to Tulum and being able to shoot some of Marisa’s pieces was somewhat of a dream. Watching a small brand like Faun grow and become recognized worldwide has not only inspired me style-wise but career-wise as well. If you’re reading this post, please do me a favour…take a few minutes to check out Faun Studio online and let me know what your favourite pieces are!
If there’s one thing I’ve been slacking on this year (and last year if I’m being honest) I honestly feel like it’s a curse of my generation and a habit that I’d like to practice breaking! Although I’m slooowly making my way through my current read (Station Eleven), I already have four others lined up and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m horrible at keeping up with it, but after a few tries it’s much easier to get back in the routine (and it makes me feel a whole lot better too)!
